Learning 한글?

안녕하세요, 여러분!
Hey everyone!

So I have finally gotten round to making this post and it will solely be on the subject of reading, writing and pronouncing the Korean Alphabet, 한글. Now, as you're probably wondering,
'How did she type in Korean? She's not Korean is she? Do I have to buy the keyboard?'
Well, no. You DO NOT have to waste money on a Korean keyboard or on stickers that have the Korean characters on them. Here is a link to my simple guide (With images) on how to start typing in Korean on your English keyboard: http://londontrendy.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/typing-in-korean-windows-link-for.html

This guide, however, is only for Windows as my mac is broken and I really don't care about it. I'm perfectly fine about using Windows to be honest and plus I love my Sims 3 so I don't want to be installing everything on my mac again.

So I learnt to write the Korean alphabet in around 2 hours. That just proves and stresses the point that the Korean alphabet is the easiest Asian language to learn.  I personally think that learning to read, write and pronounce Korean was a great choice as you will be able to baffle your friends and enrich your life. Also, you will no longer be an analphabet when travelling to Korea.

Even though Korean may look just like Chinese or Japanese to most of us English speakers who don't know the difference between the weird character mumbo-jumbo, it is actually much easier, because the characters are a combination of just 24 letters and a few simple variations, rather than a few thousand more or less random drawings. So even going at a relaxed pace of 4 letters per lesson, you will have learned everything you need to read Korean after just a few lessons, while the Japanese or Chinese scripts take years to master!

The first Korean letter you should learn is Bieup:

This is a consonant and it is a soft b sound. You might not get it at first because we don't tend to pay attention to the pitch in which we pronounce letters but after some listening to native pronunciations, you should be able to master it. Don't worry if you can't I know my Korean alphabet inside and out and I still have to stop and think about how I am pronouncing the consonant in words. Listen to it Bieup.

In Korean, we pair consonants with vowels and this is what gives them a new sound and a new meaning , so here's a vowel to go with it:

This is the vowel a as in father. This is one of the most common vowels that you will see in Korean as I come across it all the time. It's easy to master and easy to remember so this won't need much practicing! Listen to it here.

Now, in order to combine them into a Korean character, all you have to do is to try to fit them into an imaginary little square box. This is done by writing the letter ㅏ right next to ㅂ, like this:

Can you guess how this character is pronounced?
Yup, it's BAh. Easy right?

Now, the next important letter is Nieun:

This is a regular n so there's no special pronounciation here! (~Phew!) . Listen to Nieun here. Can you guess how to write Na now?

Every character represents one syllable, so if you wanted to write baba for example, you would need two characters, one for each ba. It would look like this 바바

Now it's time for a little exercise. Try to read and understand the following word. (I'll put the answers at the bottom of this post but please don't cheat! You'll only be cheating yourself!!!!)

바나나

Every Korean syllable has to start with a consonant. That makes it easy to identify the beginning and end of syllables, but what about syllables that start with a vowel, such as the beginning of the famous Korean greeting "annyong haseyo"? Those syllables need a placeholder consonant that isn't pronounced. Since its influence on the pronunciation of the syllable is zero, it is written like a zero, too. (That's how you can remember it anyway)

It is called Ieung. So the syllable would actually be written as 아.

Here are some words for practise:

아바 name of a popular band
아바나 capital of Cuba

One more thing for this post: it is possible to have syllables that end in a consonant. This typically occurs when there is a cluster of two consonants in the middle of a word: one consonant then forms the end of one syllable and the other forms the beginning of the next syllable. Fitting two consonants and a vowel into a little square box is a little more tricky, but not impossible. In most cases you write the first consonant + vowel next to each other as before and then put the final consonant below the two. For example, this is the syllable ban, which has no meaning of its own:

Time for another exercise. Can you read the following? It's a name.

안나 personal name

Did you manage to read that? If so, I can promise you that you have everything it takes to be able to read Korean fluently. This was in fact the hardest lesson of all, because you didn't have any previous knowledge. If you want to carry on with your learning Hangul and you liked this post, then you can comment below and I'll know to continue making lesson  posts on the subject.

Anyway, thanks for visiting my blog! I hope you find many other posts interesting.
Want to learn about KPOP? It's Korean POP and it's great if you want to know about the music that is popular in Korea now. I'm sure you'll get addicted and it's also a great way of furthering you Korean studies!

Typing in Korean (Windows) - Link For Macintosh

Hey everyone, here's a simple guide of how I got to type in 한글 on my Windows 7 Professional laptop and my Windows Vista Ultimate computer. Those of you looking for a guide for macintosh go here : http://www.foolsworkshop.com/120a/koreanmac.html

Ok, so my fellow Windows users! Here we go! All of these steps will be shown with images from a laptop with a Windows 7 operating system.

  1. Go to your START MENU and click on CONTROL PANEL.

2. For Windows 7 users, your control panel should look like this. Now, what you really want to find is the 'Change keyboards or other input methods' link under Clock, Language and Region.

  • For Windows Vista users or XP users, the link might not be the same but look for something with the gist of changing keyboards.

3. Once you've found the tab and clicked on it, you should get something like this.
Make sure that you are looking at the KEYBOARDS AND LANGUAGES Tab. Normally its the default tab that you are taken to. Once there, click on the 'Change Keyboards' button.

4. Once you've gotten there, click on the 'Add' button and this will allow us to add Korean as another Input language for our keyboard.
*On the left you can see that I already have Korean as an input language but I'll un-tick it and show you how to add it anyway. :D*

5. After you have clicked the 'Add' button, you will see a list of various languages which you can select to add as an input language. Scroll down the list and FIND KOREAN. The list is in alphabetical order so it shouldn't be hard. Once you've found it, click on the small '+' sign on the left of it. You should see this.

6. The expanded options are what you should see.
  • Korean
  • Microsoft IME
Other
  • Ink Correction (64-bit Only)
Now, there are two things you have to do if you have a 64-bit operating system if not then you should only put a tick next to the MICROSOFT IME option. Once you've done this, skip to step 7.

  • For 64-bit operating systems (like mine) You must also tick the MICROSOFT IME option but also, under OTHER, select the 'INK CORRECTION (64-BIT ONLY)  option. Now you can progress to step 7.

7. You are virtually done! Just click OK  to get off of this box but on the 'TEXT SERVICES AND INPUT LANGUAGES' YOU MUST PRESS 'APPLY' OTHERWISE YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TYPE IN KOREAN!
Once you've pressed apply on that screen, click OK on the next one!

TURNING ON '한글'

To turn on Korean, you must make sure that you know where your language bar is, the easiest place to keep it and what I think must be the default place for it to be kept is the taskbar. If you are English and your default input language is English then you should see a little 'EN' on your taskbar like so.

It's the same for Windows Vista users.
IF THE 'EN' IS NOT THERE, RIGHT-CLICK THE TASKBAR AND SELECT 'SHOW THE LANGUAGE BAR.'

2.Click on that 'EN' sign or whatever language you use and select Korean, you should see it here.
As you can see I have a lot of languages installed but that's only because I can't be bothered to uninstall them. The only ones I use are English (United Kingdom), Korean and French. :D

3. Now you're language bar should appear like this. Click on the 'A' because it's the Hangul/English toggle so you can click on it again to change from Korean to your default input language and then you're all done!

Thanks for visiting my blog and I hope that you find other posts that I have made interesting too!

Summer Photography Class

Hey everyone, so usually my summer holidays are no fun at all and I spend the whole 6 weeks stuck in my house so this year, I was determined to get active, as cheesy as it sounds.
I enrolled in a photography class and knowing me, it was free and like the teacher said, I came out with some kick ass photos so there isn't going to be any more writing on this post, here are my photos, and I hope you like! Plus, I don't plan to be a photographer anytime soon and am not a professional as this was the first time I had ever touched a digital SLR.
All rights reserved as I took and edited these photos myself.

Great Sims 3 Download Sites

Here are a few of some Sims 3 download sites that I have found which give you links to FREE  custom content that you would normally have to pay for.

*This will be updated regularly as I may find some more sites later so keep checking this post for more website links!*

The First website:

To be fair, this site isn't completely free and to download anything, you need to sign up. Also, by the Sims 3 EULA law, all of their content should be free.
However, they do offer 3 subscriber items- A download that you would have been expected to pay for- free everyday! Plus it's easy to download and install CC (custom content) as it only displays items in .sims3packs.
If you don't know how to install .sims3packs, go here

Second website:
Now this websites is AWESOME! Like TheSimsResource, their CC is in the .sims3pack format making it easier to download but unlike TheSimsResource, EVERYTHING IN FREE!
Although donations to the creator are welcomed, they aren't forced so you can download as much as you like without having to pay one penny!

Third Website:
This is a tumblr blog that I have recently found which gives you STORE CONTENT FOR FREE!!!! To be honest, I love that she is being so generous to give us all of these links as I'm sure that some of the CC on the blog, especially all of the Sims 3 base game worlds, cost a lot  of sims 3 points to get. All of her links work but sometimes the content gets removed so you can't download it. Also, she alternates between where she chooses to host her files for downloading so when you see a link to 4shared, make sure you have an account with 4shared as you need one to download anything from their site.

SPARE INFO- {This blog just became even more awesome as the creator posted links to expansion packs and where you can download them COMPLETELY FREE!
Now a lot of people are aware of illegal downloads and I might be saying, or might not, or might be, that my game could possibly have been acquired for free from one of these sites. If you are new to this and you want me to make a post about how to successfully download EP's and the base game or how to update your game from those websites then comment on this post or just send me an email.}

So, I know there are only three websites here but I thought that it would be better to just get the main websites out there as when you have these websites, the amount of CC you can get from all of them together can last you for the whole of your Sims 3 playing life.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

BIGBANG 2012 Alive {World Tour} LONDON?!

Bigbang have been set to have their first World Tour on their recent album 'Alive'!

Fans will finally have their wishes come true, as the 5-member boy band will make various stops at different cities. YG Entertainment have said that Big Bang will perform in 25 cities in 16 countries. We have seen from other artists such as Rain that World Tours have included England, a country that seems to be feared by most KPOP artists.

When BIGBANG went to Ireland, it seemed to be a miracle and I know that I, and all of the other KPOP fans in London wanted them to hop on that plane for just an hour and come over to London.

It didn't happen.

But this is our chance! BIGBANG might just come to London for their tour as part of the European cities that they are going to visit!

Now, on to the evidence.

  • We know that BIGBANG are set to visit 25 cities in 16 countries. If we take a look at the facebook page where they announce the cities they will visit and the dates of the concert, 22 cities have been announced. None of these however have been cities in Europe.
  • 13 countries have been annnounced too so that leaves 3 countries in Europe and 1 cities in each of these countries.

One of these cities could be LONDON!!!

I have just watched this video and it has CONFIRMED  that BIGBANG WILL COME TO THE UK!!!

I think that it's safe to say that they will be coming to London now. So will you go? Tickets haven't been announced yet just like the date but they should come out soon.

My best friend is going to get us both tickets, its the same with my sister and her best friend!

So go out and shout it!!

BIGBANG IS COMING TO LONDON GUYS!

{Although it hasn't been fully confirmed.}
